Greasepaint Productions celebrates its 10th anniversary this week, with the well known musical production of A Chorus Line at Loughborough Town Hall. The talented cast (which includes Julie Easter who excelled herself as Shirley Valentine earlier in the year) did not disappoint with this latest offering. The story sets itself at the cutthroat audition complete with tough as nails director Zach, played by real life director Shane Perry, in which a variety of hopeful youngsters are dreaming of landing a job in the volatile world of singing and dancing. As the group is slowly dwindled down we are left with 18 wannabes who again must be reduced to the final lucky eight. In order to get exactly the right results he wants Zach delves deep into their hearts and personalities so he can see who and what they really are as people. Along the way as each character unfolds, we the audience are able to identify with each of them, and see them dealing with hopes, dreams, aspirations, reality, avoidance, denial, tears and happiness. We even get a glimpse of the director's sensitive side after his heart breaks when his old flame Cassie, who in his mind was destined for much greater things, re-joins the chorus line, when her abilities greatly exceed it. Throughout the production we are treated to impressive voices and wonderful energetic dance routines alongside a thought provoking script. I certainly wouldn't pass up an opportunity to see this talented group in action again, as I'm sure, neither would the rest of the audience. Here's to the next 10 years. Greasepaint Productions present-A Chorus LineOne of the longest running musicals in history, A Chorus Line also revolutionised the way audiences view musical theatre, breaking away from a rigid story line and weaving together the stories of the ensemble cast into a seamless whole. A Broadway show is to open and we follow the dancers as they audition to be a part of it. As they make it through each round, the potential cast members are asked to reveal a part of themselves. So sit back and watch as we embark upon a roller coaster ride of emotions as aspirations are shared and souls are bared. With music and lyrics by Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban, this promises to be another exhilarating musical from Greasepaint Productions. Please book early to avoid disappointment. A Chorus Line3rd - 7th June, 2003Loughborough Town HallWhat a show! What a
cast! A Broadway show is to open and we follow the dancers as they audition to be a part of it. As they make it through each round, each cast member is asked to reveal a part of themselves. They embark upon a rollercoaster ride of emotions as each is asked to bear their soul! We learn of their triumphs, pain, despair, hunger, humour, aspirations, desires, loves and childhood. This is a great opportunity to shine in all three aspects of musical theatre: dance, song and acting; you cannot have one without the other. Already, new lighting/staging techniques are being embarked upon, their objective: to match and bring to life a wonderful piece of theatre. There is a lot of excitement amongst the cast of A Chorus Line - that makes moulding the piece very exhilarating for us!!
